The Pedigree of Thoroughbred Gelding Wine Scholar

A versatile real estate executive, Jimmy Winemiller owns a wide range of commercial and residential properties in multiple US states. The former owner of the Iron Horse Farm thoroughbred facility, Jimmy Winemiller remains active in the world of professional horse racing.

Mr. Winemiller’s racehorses included the thoroughbred bay gelding Wine Scholar. Standing 16.2 hands tall and featuring a full-bodied physique, Wine Scholar was foaled on February 13, 2011, by breeder Becky Winemiller.

Wine Scholar’s father, Smart Strike, was an established winner at the Group One (G1) level, representing the most prominent thoroughbred and standardbred stakes races in the United States and other major countries. Wine Scholar’s mother, Dragon Fly, was a gray/roan mare of the Sadler's Wells/Cure The Blues line and a seven-time race starter.

Smart Strike was sired by the black-type winner Mr. Prospector and the Ontario bay mare Classy ‘n Smart, while Dragon Fly was sired by the G1 winner Sadler’s Wells and the French grey mare Luna Blue. Unfortunately, Wine Scholar received an injury and was retired from racing in 2015.
